Horse Woods Haven is a transformative place and experience. To step into the property, one feels an immediate sense of calm and grounding from the deep vortex energy. There is a lovely hushed awe in the many nature portals and the contentment from roaming horses and joyful cats. The beauty of the immaculate meadows, labyrinths and majestic woods create a cocoon of peace. There is an incredible sense of magic, wonder and healing. Its easy to imagine magical beings present amongst the trees and flowers and to feel blessed by their presence. HWH is Sue and Sue is HWH and we are privileged that she takes such joy in sharing this incredible treasure. It is truly a Haven to be savored and experienced.
From the moment you enter the grounds at Horse Woods Haven, the attention and care that is paid to them and all their inhabitants is palpable. As a person with a solid meditative practice, this translates into an ideal place to go as deep as possible. It is not merely the features themselves- the pristine woods, the orderly and walkable fields, the labyrinths- that make it feel so peaceful. It is that they are being stewarded in a way that considers their interrelationship that really does it. The whickering of the horses would not sound so contented were they not aware of their safety and the deep care they are paid. That contentedness relies in some way on the woods and fields and their denizens. Sue is driven by that connection, and it shows. One naturally becomes aware through taking the place in and being present that one is part of the larger whole of the Earth, and that connection makes the deeper connections we try for during meditation easier to find. Whether you are coming to simply disconnect and be with nature, to be creatively inspired, or to dive into a meditative practice, Horse Woods Haven is the place to do it. I will be returning.
I felt a deep, healing sense of calm the moment we turned into the driveway of this beautiful equine sanctuary. The peaceful feeling increased as I got to know Sue, the horses, the stunning grounds, and the old-growth woods. I left feeling restored and renewed – and hope to return with my yoga students one day.
I thoroughly enjoyed my four-day visit to HWH. It is a very special place – the quiet, open space; the lovingly-cared-for land, plants, and animals; and the work that Sue is doing to make it available to all forms of shared community, teaching, healing, and the arts. Her respect for and honoring of all the life forms at HWH is remarkable. In my short time there, I went from feeling completely unfamiliar with horses to feeling like I had made five new friends just by being around them. There is a wonderful mix of undeveloped woods and easily accessible walking areas. The opportunity to be in such a serene and regenerative environment is a rare gift.
